da bet nacional: According to the print version of The Daily Mail (January 8, page 72), Nottingham Forest are keen to sign Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton on loan during the January transfer window, and it is a potential move that would please a lot of Reds fans.
What’s the word, then?
da bet7k: Well, The Daily Mail report that Aitor Karanka is keen to bring the 32-year-old to The City Ground this month, although a deal that looked highly possible to do a month ago will be more difficult to get over the line now.
Heaton was happy to go before the deadline having spent the season on the substitutes’ bench between Joe Hart, but he has reclaimed his spot in the starting XI in recent weeks and impressed.
The Daily Mail report that the England international wants to stay as long as he continues to be Sean Dyche’s number one, but the imminent return from injury of Nick Pope – who kept Heaton on the sidelines last season through his good form – could be bad news for the experienced stopper’s future.
Would he be a good signing for Forest?
He certainly would be.
Heaton has shown in recent Premier League appearances just how good a goalkeeper he is, and it is perhaps no surprise that they have won both top flight matches the 32-year-old – who also captained them in the two victories – has played in.
Meanwhile, Forest are well in the Championship promotion race right now, but many of the City Ground faithful feel that Costel Pantilimon – who has come under plenty of criticism from his own supporters on Twitter this term – is one of their weak links.
There is little doubt that Heaton is more solid and reliable than the Romania international, and the fact that he has the experience of being promoted from this division means his addition would be a huge coup.
