da bet esporte: According to reports in the Daily Mail, Manchester United youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah is a loan target for Premier League side Watford, but Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho is yet to decide whether he will be allowed to leave the club on a temporary basis this summer.
What’s the word, then?
da dobrowin: Well, the Daily Mail says the Hornets have expressed an interest in signing the versatile 19-year-old – who can play at full-back, centre-back or in defensive midfield – on loan, but Mourinho is yet to decide whether he is willing to sanction the move and won’t make a decision until after their UEFA Super Cup match against Real Madrid later this month.
The teenage Dutchman has featured in all of United’s pre-season fixtures to date and The Sun says that he is highly thought of at Old Trafford.
However, he didn’t feature regularly for the first team last term and may be fearful of his chances for the upcoming campaign following the arrival of the likes of Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic already this summer.
How did Fosu-Mensah fare last season?
As alluded to previously, he struggled to make an impression and made just 11 appearances in all competitions for United, with all but one of those outings coming from the substitutes’ bench.
The 19-year-old spent just 323 minutes on the pitch in total and the player will certainly to improve on that number in the upcoming campaign, leaving Jose Mourinho with a decision to make.
What is Mourinho likely to decide?
Despite featuring prominently during pre-season, you would think that the Portuguese boss is likely to loan Fosu-Mensah out to develop and play regularly at this level.
While Mourinho may be put off of the idea because of the defensive crisis he endured last season, he has Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young capable of playing at centre-back and right-back, while new boy Matic will slot into the defensive midfield role.
That leaves little room for a youngster like Fosu-Mensah, who would struggle to make the matchday squad as things stand.
If Watford can guarantee that the 19-year-old will be a regular starter at Vicarage Road, a move is more likely to happen than not.
