da bet7: As reported by The Daily Mail, former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has back his old teammate Allan McGregor to be a success at Ibrox should he re-sign for the club at the end of the season.
What’s the story?
da prosport bet: McGregor is reported to be on the brink of a move to Rangers, with a medical expected to be completed today ahead of a two-year deal.
The Hull City shot-stopper’s current contract runs out at the end of the season, meaning the Light Blues won’t have to pay a fee to sign him.
Now one of his former teammates, Barry Ferguson, has backed him to shine in his second spell at the club, believing he’s exactly what Rangers need.
As quoted by The Daily Mail, Ferguson said:
I got told a week ago there was a chance of Allan McGregor going back to Ibrox and I think it’s what Rangers need – not just as a goalkeeper although I think he’s different class.
He’s probably the best goalkeeper I’ve played with, and I’ve played with some top ones like “The Goalie” Andy Goram, Stefan Klos, Joe Hart, Ben Foster, and Brad Friedel.
What made Allan the best? He was an absolute loony bin, not just a loony-bin.
But he had everything. He always fancied himself as an outfield player, but he couldn’t run.
They have a good goalkeeper as it is (in Wes Foderingham) but, for me, you look at the type of character McGregor is.
He’s a strong character – and that’s what that place needs right now.
Can the goalkeeper help the club close the gap on Celtic next season?

Is he what Rangers need?
Times are tough at Rangers right now with the dressing room in revolt against Graeme Murty, captains suspended and senior players frozen out.
They definitely need players at the club who understand the pressures of performing to a high standard at Ibrox and McGregor certainly has that.
He won multiple trophies with the club before leaving in 2012 and although 36, is still playing regularly enough in the English Championship to demonstrate he is more than capable of excelling at Scottish Premiership level.
In terms of a free transfer, he’s an excellent one and should aid Rangers both on and off the pitch.
