da fazobetai: As reported by The Evening Times, former Rangers hero Lee McCulloch has backed Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes to take the vacant manager job at Ibrox.
What’s the story?
da marjack bet: With the club revealing on Friday that they are unlikely to be appointing anyone for another week at least, it seems that Graeme Murty will continue to be in charge of first-team affairs coming out of the international break.
However, the calls for them to make a decision are growing and Dons manager Derek McInnes is still the leading candidate for most fans and pundits.
Former player Lee McCulloch, a man who knows what it takes to achieve at Rangers more than most, is the latest to give McInnes his backing, believing he is the perfect choice.
As quoted by The Evening Times, McCulloch said:
The likes of McClaren and Pardew have been mentioned, but obviously the main contender is McInnes. He would be my choice. He knows the club, he’s played for the club and he knows the standards of the club. It’s a very important thing. If you look at where he’s taken Aberdeen from, to where they are now and the way he has recruited over that time, in my opinion he is the perfect fit.
Should Rangers halt their ongoing recruitment process and simply do what it takes to bring McInnes to the club?
The perfect fit?
McCulloch is correct to assert that McInnes is the man for the job. A former Rangers player himself, McInnes knows exactly what makes Rangers tick, knows where the club wants to go and more importantly knows exactly what he’d be working with.
He’s taken Aberdeen from bottom six strugglers to consistently the second best side in the country and before Brendan Rodgers arrived had the Dons competing well with Celtic.
The club have dabbled in experiments with Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha, but it’s time to put that behind them and bring a known quantity to the dugout at Ibrox. It might not be the flashiest or most high profile of appointments compared to some of the names in the frame, but it’s the logical choice and dragging their manager search on for another week is only going to further frustrate fans.
