da betsson: According to reports in The Sun, Sunderland are in talks to sign out of favour Burnley striker Jon Walters to on loan before the transfer window slams shut on January 31.
da fazobetai: The Mackems are keen to bring the experienced 34-year-old to the Stadium of Light to boost their fight for survival in the Championship following a disappointing campaign to date.
The Sun says that Black Cats boss Chris Coleman is negotiating a loan deal that could see the Republic of Ireland international join them on a temporary basis and then permanently in the summer, with the former Stoke City attacker struggling for first-team football at Turf Moor in recent weeks following an injury-hit season – he played just nine minutes in four Premier League matches since his return from a knee injury.
Meanwhile, Leeds United find themselves fighting at the opposite end of the Championship as they look to finally return to the Premier League for the first time since they were relegated in 2004, but manager Thomas Christiansen may well be keen to strengthen his squad this month.
One of his priorities could be to add a new attacker to his side, and bringing Walters to Elland Road could prove to be a shrewd move.
Here are three reasons Leeds must hijack Sunderland’s bid to sign the veteran forward…
Experience
When you are fighting for promotion to the Premier League from a notoriously difficult division, experience can be a key factor in ensuring that you don’t slip up when it matters.
Walters certainly has plenty of that given that he has played more than 600 matches in his career for club and country, and there is no doubt that he could prove to be a key player both on and off of the pitch given his character and mentality.
His qualities
The 34-year-old has shown throughout his career that he loves a battle and isn’t afraid to put his body on the line for his team, and that is an admirable trait.
The Republic of Ireland international is strong in the air and likes to put defenders under pressure, while his versatility – he played on either wing, behind the striker and as a centre-forward during his time with Stoke City – could be extremely useful for Leeds in a busy second-half of the campaign.
He would be a fans’ favourite
Walters always seems to give 100% on the pitch for club and country, and his work rate and general character should ensure that he would a real favourite among the Elland Road faithful if he did join Leeds this month.
The passionate Whites supporters like big personalities, and they will know that the 34-year-old’s experience and presence in the squad could be enough to help the Yorkshire outfit secure a play-off spot at the end of the season.
