Team selection should give us an early indication of how Gareth Southgate seeks to evolve his side after impressing at the tournament in Russia, and one of the biggest decisions to make will be in defence.

Liverpool’s promising youngster Joe Gomez, meanwhile, seems almost tailor-made for one of the wide centre-back roles – as part full-back and part centre-half – and has started the season in fantastic form.
With that in mind, we asked England fans earlier this week whether Southgate should stick with what he knows in the form of Walker, or look to the future by starting Gomez against Spain instead.
And our poll has revealed that, despite his World Cup heroics, 67% of Three Lions followers think it’s time to bring Gomez into the side at the Manchester City defender’s expense.
