da dobrowin: Arsenal beat Bournemouth at the weekend in a game where at times, it looked as though The Gunners might be held to a draw by Eddie Howe’s side.
da bwin: The Gunners were nowhere near their best and struggled to put up with Bournemouth’s dynamic attack.
Emery chose to switch to a back three at the weekend in order to deal with Bournemouth’s front three but it didn’t really work. Bournemouth looked superb going forward and were unlucky to have a goal ruled out. Going forward, Arsenal didn’t look great and for most of the game, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looked very isolated.
In Emery’s new look formation, Mesut Ozil was dropped to the bench. Emery chose to drop the German international due to the physicality of Bournemouth and according to the Daily Star, Ozil could be dropped for more away games going forward.
The Breakdown
With Alexis Sanchez leaving the club last season, Arsenal had to keep their other star man and as a result, signed Mesut Ozil to a gigantic £350,000-a-week contract. Following such an eye-watering wage, you might expect that Ozil would be the focal point of the team and the man that Emery would build around.
Since Emery has arrived at the club, however, he has not been afraid to drop the former Germany international.
If Emery will indeed look to drop the midfielder in the future, it shows that not only were Arsenal held to ransom but also that they shouldn’t have signed him to such a gigantic contract. He may not be a key man for Emery going forward and if that is the case, it shows some poor planning from the club.
