da dobrowin: Aston Villa have joined a growing list of clubs interested in Newcastle United’s Isaac Hayden, with The Mirror suggesting Dean Smith is keen on the move.
What’s the word?
Latest reports in The Mirror have identified Villa and fellow Midlands outfit West Bromwich Albion as interested parties for the signature of Hayden, who is claimed to be seeking a move away from St James’ Park because of personal reasons.
The former Arsenal academy star is suggested to have alerted Newcastle to his desires for a future elsewhere back in the summer, and, despite Rafa Benitez’s continued support, still wishes to leave Newcastle this season.
The Magpies have, however, so far rejected WBA’s advances, after Darren Moore’s side approached the Toon over a loan deal, with Benitez reluctant to sign off on Hayden’s departure before a suitable replacement comes in.
The 23-year-old has returned to the starting XI for the past four Newcastle fixtures having been ostracised for much of the season, and while it is unclear whether Villa’s approach would be a permanent or loan bid, they midfielder is valued by TransferMarkt at £6.3million.
Pl>ymaker FC’s Theo Ogden made the 100 mile trip from Bolton to Hull only to see his side demolished 6-0 by the Tigers. Check out his reaction in the video below…
Could it happen?
Providing Benitez is able to successfully target a replacement for Hayden, there is no reason why the Magpies should stand in the 23-year-old’s way any longer while he continues to seek a move elsewhere.
Ki Sung-Yueng’s time away for the Asian Cup will dent any club’s plans to sign Hayden in January, however, as the final will not be held until the transfer window has already slammed shut.
Should a deal fall in Villa’s favour though, the £22,000-a-week star would make a stellar addition for Smith’s side, signalling a real coup for the Lions.
On the other hand, Birkir Bjarnason’s place in Smith’s side would come under serious risk, with John McGinn and Conor Hourihane regular leaders at Villa Park.
Out of the Claret and Blues’ midfielders, to record more than nine appearances in a central or defensive role during Championship games, the 30-year-old Icelandic international has recorded the fewest shots, tackles, successful dribbles, and key passes per 90 minutes.
